How to Discover Your Purpose With Astrology ✨

Do you want to have a life brimming with meaning and purpose? Do you feel lost? Lacking direction?

I know how this all feels like.
I might look super young … but I’m actually approaching my 30’s. And in my turbulent 20’s I’ve had my fair share of crisis and crucial moments of re-defining my life. Using my birth chart was a GAMECHANGER in my quest for purpose. The result: I feel like I have a sense of direction and a deep feeling of meaning and purpose. It feels so beautiful. I changed my entire career path and found a romantic relationship that feels healthy. And I started sharing on my blog and on YouTube.
Don’t be mistaken, life is not all rainbows and sunshine – and this is not THE ONE solution. But your birth chart is a beautiful way to start.

Since then I’ve also discovered patterns in other people’s birth charts that are pointing towards what it is that makes them fulfilled. Let me share this knowledge with you in the hopes that it’s going to guide you to a more fulfilled and happy life as well.

What is Purpose?

Life was never meant to be a straight line.
Life is meant to be lived.

Earth Rose

A lot of people people believe that purpose is only about a profession. However, purpose is much more. It doesn’t necessarily have something to do with the way you earn your money. It is a feeling blueprint that makes life worth it. It doesn’t always feel good and cozy but it feels RIGHT!

Do you feel lost? Nothing has gone wrong

Nothing has gone wrong if you’re X years old and still feel lost. Feeling confused might be part of your purpose because trauma and purpose are often connected. Maybe you are going through this difficult situation right now in order to teach others how to do the same?

For some of us, purpose is about experimenting and taking a dive into the darkness – trial and error. It might be meaningful to understand life is not about a linear path. After all, life is to be lived – and not to follow a straight line.

The Lunar Nodes

The Lunar Nodes are mathematically calculated points consisting of the North Node, which can be thought of as a “North Star” for you life, and a South Node.
They are always located OPPOSITE from each other. Meaning, if you have a Scorpio North Node, you automatically have a Taurus South Node. If you’re North Node is in the 12th House, your South Node is in the 6th House.

Many ideologies talk about how the South Node represents your past life and your North Node what you have to focus on in this lifetime. I partly disagree! Many associate a South Node with negative karma you have to overcome – this couldn’t be further from the truth! Your South Node represents your comfort zone and your gifts, things you’ve already mastered. They are not there to punish you – but to SUPPORT your North Node’s calling.

Your North Node is something that’s going to be quite uncomfortable for you but it’s your calling. You can feel it drawing you in a certain direction. Even if you’re not consciously aware of it, it might still be happening.

Lunar Nodes‘ Signs – Your Life’s Overall Theme

The sign of your Lunar Nodes represents the overall theme of your life. It is a little less personal though as many people of your generation share the same signs.

Example:

North Node in Scorpio – embracing the unknown & transformation, building a healthy relationship to change, embracing depth, exploring taboo subjects
South Node in Taurus – physical pleasures, relaxation, sense of aesthetics, being down to earth

IF you are resisting your calling, your South Node might turn toxic. For Taurus South Node it would turn into sluggishness, laziness, overindulgence and “idle aesthetics”.

BUT if you embrace your North Node, your South Node gifts will BLOSSOM and support your purpose absolutely perfectly! So listen to your Heart’s calling (how to speak to and listen to your heart).

Lunar Nodes‘ Houses – The Exact Area of Your Purpose

The House of your Lunar Nodes is even more important – because it’s more personal to you. This will be the exact area where your purpose is going to unfold.

Examples

North Node in the 11th House – 11th House is the House of Aquarius. It’s standing for online communication, bigger groups of people, ideologies that are avant-garde or futuristic (and other people might think you are gaga because of it) and good causes like NGOs (unicef, environmental causes). The 5th House in Leo is about charisma and enjoying the spotlight. It comes natural to this person. When they turn towards their higher goals of good or futuristic causes for humanity, the gift of charisma and stage-presence will support this beautifully.

North Node in the 12th House – 12th House is the House of Pisces. Themes are the arts (music, poetry, paintings, movies), working in “unseen” places like the military, hospitals or psych wards, the dream sphere and everything that is reality but at the same time not conventionally tangible (like spirituality). The 6th House is the House of Virgo and it represents organization, the daily life, and productivity. When an individual follows their calling towards a Pisces-like place, the Virgo qualities will blossom and support this cause.

The Role of Your Big 3 (Sun, Moon, Ascendant)

The Sun – What I do

The Sun is about the ego, the physical body and the light of consciousness. So it is part of the actual physical activity you will be doing as part of your purpose. It is the area where you will SHINE!

Examples:

Sun in Gemini – intellectual activities, interacting with people, dark sense of humor, quick-witted communication. I know people with this placement who work as speakers, professors and comedians.

Sun in Taurus – groundedness, being connected to the earth, talent for visual aesthetics, the throat. I know people with this placement who are physical therapists (myself), gardeners or singers.

The Moon – What I need

The Moon represents your emotional needs. What do you need to be emotionally fulfilled? This placement is SO important when it comes to feeling purpose.

Example:

Moon in Sagittarius – you emotionally need spiritual endeavours and new explorations constantly. Travel whether it’s physical travel or “travelling with the mind”. Don’t expect yourself to do the same thing 5 years in a row. You need to allow yourself to move on when it’s time without feeling like a failure.

The Ascendant – What I can work on

Your Ascendant shows your Limiting Beliefs. I think it’s crucial to not just look for the positive, but also be brave and take a look at how you’re stuck. What limiting beliefs do I have towards the world? Because purpose is about interacting with the world.

Example:

Ascendant in Libra – These folks value harmony. However, they are often stuck in pleasing others. Part of their purpose entails sometimes disappointing people and standing up for themselves. Learning how to deal with anger in a healthy way (because they suppress so much) can also be beneficial.
Ascendant in Scorpio – These people feel like the world is a hostile place. How can I learn, in baby steps, how to trust again? This might be a slow process. But it’s part of the purpose of a Scorpio Ascendant to transform this pain in a soft and loving way.

BONUS: Finding your Chart Ruler

Your Chart Ruler is your most dominant planet. This could be because one of these planets is conjunct your Ascendant for example. Or because you have many planets in the same house. E.g. you have many planets in the 7th House, which is the House of Libra, which is ruled by Venus – making Venus your chart ruler.

There are many astro websites out there who support you in finding your Chart Ruler. Reading up on the properties of this planet can be eye-opening in terms of your purpose. For example, a chart ruled by Pluto, might find meaning in shadow work, psychology and transforming Trauma.
