Trust Your Inner Guide – 7 Exercises to Awaken Your Intuition

Unfortunately, today’s society often leaves few room for intuition. Many distrust their intuition, mistaking it with their inner voice of fear. How often have you made decisions because your gutt told you so? This is not some kind of outworldly superpower but your natural state of being.

Why don’t we trust our intuition anymore?

With the process of socialization, children subconsciously pick up surrounding thought patterns and very quickly sense the expectations of people around them. The more sensitive a child is, the more it will suffer from overloads of negativity and limited belief systems. However, even if it seems upsetting and unfair (and believe me, often it is), their is a great potential inherent in trauma. In fact, this rupture is the potential for our biggest expansion points in life. Through experiencing the contrast of pain, we are able to discover where our authenticity and healing lies. Just like you cannot conceptualize of light if you don’t know darkness. Rediscovering your personal truth, will kick off an irreversible process of healing and integration which allows for your natural gifts to slowly re-enter your life.

You will feel more in touch with yourself and others. As a result, more positive circumstances enter your life. You may turn your lemons into lemonade, and help others to do so. Sounds good? Then here are my favorite hacks to practice your intuitive abilities.

1. Meditation

Yes, you read it right. „I will never be able to sit still for so long.“ „Meditation bores me.“ or „I can not not think of something.“, I hear you.  But what if meditation is not that strict at all? You don’t have to be in a certain position, in fact you can meditate while you’re standing, walking, or even showering. And it is not about thinking nothing. It is simply about taking a moment to connect with yourself .

Here is my favorite approach to get you started.

  • Wherever you are, try to close your eyes. If you are walking, focus presently with open eyes on whats around you. Now notice what you can hear, try to focus in on different sounds. If you have your eyes open also take in visual stimuli. Simply observe. If there is an ugly building or a loud plane that annoys you, then observe this, too (Oh, interesting! This annoys me apparently..). Now take in your outer feelings. Can you feel the hair on your head, the clothes on your skin? Do you feel how your feet touch the ground? Is the air warm or cool?

This process happens really fast. It might take you seconds. If you want you can stop here. I highly suggest going further, though.

  • Now observe your breathing. You don’t have to breathe in a special manner, just watch how it unfolds before you. Your breath might even naturally change. Anything we give our attention to changes, so do not worry about that. Stay a few breaths in this state.
  • Now check in with your inner feelings. For me this is the most powerful stuff! Do you feel scared? Anxious? Angry? Restless, about to end the meditation as the energy bursts out of you? Are your feet burning or very cold? Is there a heavy feeling on your chest? Is your throat tight? Simply see what’s there.

Now behold, you might be REALLY suprised which emotions surface. Especially if you have never done this before, this can be intense. But feel into the emotion. Treat it like a child. Internally say: „All anxiety (insert emotion) is allowed to be here now.“ Welcome it in, show it compassion. Connect with it like you would with an aching child.  Why does it feel this way? What does it want you to do? The answers will come naturally.

If you suddenly find yourself crying from relief or getting a warm surge through your body, this is totally fine. Other symptoms might occur too, like unexpected strong pain. All of these signify the most urgent emotions you have suppressed, maybe for many years. Tell the emotion: „You are totally valid. You are allowed to be here. :-)“

Pretty simple. You can do this every day, if you want to. The truth lies in simplicity. You can take 5 minutes, 15 or half an hour. No complicated shit, just getting in touch with your senses and feelings. That’s it. And, you guessed it, this will align you with your intuition like nothing else.

2. Go out in nature

Besides pure water, nature has one of the highest energetic vibrations. Nature can heal you. So if your energy field is clocked up, going out to the beach or forest, may really give you the boost you need. Take in every breath of wind, the clouds, flowers or anything you enjoy focusing on. This will boost your mood and sharpen your intuitive sensors. As you go through your day, you will notice how your intuitive abilities have strengthened. You will feel clear and awake. Watch out for the small pretty moments in life, that flow towards you after a recharge in nature.

3. Go out at night

This tip is especially useful for the highly sensitive among us. At night, when the streets are less crowded and most people are asleep, the energy field is much clearer. If you feel safe, go outside and look for a quiet place. Watch how the nightly silence washes away your sorrow. If you are lucky and the sky is starlit, go to number 5 and enjoy the experience of stargazing. As a nice side effect of just feeling better, you have higher chances of experiencing vivid or lucid dreams afterwards. If you were really exhausted however, a nice deep sleep may kick in, aiding your recovery.

4. The right food

As you might have guessed fresh and unprocessed foods are high vibing. So eat your fruit and veggies. But did you know there are certain foods that specifically help your intuitive abilities? Intuition is often closely connected to the so-called third eye chakra, which is indigo blue in traditional buddhist teachings. After a meditation, you might even see a blue ball of light before your closed eyes. No wonder, I found that blueberries and berries in general, strengthen my inner guidance system. Other foods include bananas, or leafy greens such as arugula, kale or spinach. So, reserve these options a special place on your plate when you feel clogged up.

5. Stargazing

Have you ever looked at a particular star and wondered: How far away is it? How does it look like from close up? What else is going on in our galaxy? You are not alone. Looking into the starlit night gives you a sense of peace and connects you to the bigger picture of life. Daily issues suddenly seem mundane. I might suggest, it is naive to believe there is no life at all in the universe, given it’s size. So let yourself dream and wonder. Observe what you can see. Some stars glow red, others blue. This can be perceived with the naked eye. This is an effective way to connect with your own infinite nature.

Or as physicist Lawrence M. Krauss puts it:

„Every atom in your body came from a star that exploded. And, the atoms in your left hand probably came from a different star than your right hand. It really is the most poetic thing I know about physics: You are all stardust.“

6. Synchronicity Journal

Take a fresh journal and write down all events that seem synchronistic to you. Synchronicites are signs that mirror your internal reality on the outside. This might be thinking about a cat and suddenly a car drives by with a cat logo. Or you think of something beautiful, look at the clock and see numbers like 11:11, 22:22, 15:15 or similar.

The more you do this, the more you subconsciously program your mind to watch out for these small signs. If you have trouble to believe you create your reality, this might also help you.

7. Chakra Meditation

Even though intuition is often associated with the Third Eye Chakra, it is the harmony of all energy points of your body that really brings you in touch with your inner truth. Especially the practice of grounding can be helpful for sensitive people.

So try this meditation: Sit down and move through the seven chakras from top to bottom (google is your friend), imagining each associated color in front of your inner eye. So, first you imagine a bright red. Breathe into this until you feel your energy changing. Then move to the next.

If you have time in the morning give this meditation a go and observe how you feel afterwards. 🙂

These were my 7 personal favorites. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to message me. Have a wonderful day! Much love <3
